Nitin Ghangrekar

Nitin and his wife Snehal are both Pune based painters. Nitin began his artistic career by enrolling in the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalya in Pune but he didn't complete his formal art education. This in no way hindered his growth as a creative artist. If at all it allowed him to take creative liberties and heed to his own calling.

Nitin already has shown a great virtuosity in the range of subjects he has handled. The Gurukul series, or the series depicting rural life in India he shows simplicity in handling the subjects. This he arrives at by studying every aspect possible for the same. For example the Gurukul series is a result of the artist travels and visits to various Gurukul system of education. He imbibed the essence of the schools; by doing a lot of sketches while there, and when he was back in his studio he didn't translate the sketches but interpreted them beautifully. Nitin has the ability to in deconstruct an idea and put it forward in simple and appealing format. Simplicity of concept and visual aesthetics is important to Nitin. Color too is used in a bold and expressionistic way.

Nitin has had several exhibitions of his paintings in India and abroad. His paintings too are in many private collections across the globe.
Nitin Says “  'Gurukul'  is a way of life which embodies a cosmic vision to acquire the real essence of knowledge and harmony with nature. On my travel to a 'Gurukul' I was fascinated to see children studying Veda and various other aspects at their Guru’s (an enlightened teacher’s) residence in the traditional way...  which inspired me to paint the ‘Gurukul’ series of Paintings.

The children’s innocence and mischief combined with their vivaciousness carries me to an altogether delightful state. Every moment is interesting and there is a movement in every moment. The canvas encompasses vast horizon of life representing tradition in the form of innocence, growing and merging itself in its movement. It extends and streamlines itself into present where tradition and modernity meet each other. There is a joy in sharing those moments, when the cadence of the flute still reverberates in the atmosphere. The canvas awaits to fill itself with captivating expressions and refreshing moods. Their striking saffron robes with blue body tone reflects their calm and blissful nature in harmony.

In the pious atmosphere of the ‘Gurukul’ the young ‘Shishyas’ (students) are immersed in learning the Vedic knowledge in their silence and simplicity. The innocent & playful Boys share their joy seeing the fresco painting of Lord Ganesh & Goddess Saraswati with the celestial gods in the divine atmosphere of the temple.

Gurukul Boys adore their friend's creation and the creator admires his artistic expression. Boys share their happiness and love with the holy cows and the intelligent Parrots too.

One rejoices the real essence of self realization in splendid silence. The luxury of leisure with cherished memories of a caring bond of playful childhood,
where simple moments of togetherness seem special.

The vibrant colours in a pure form also seem to be eager to spread, mix and mingle smoothly conveying the essence of happiness, energy and pure joy. This manifestation of love has enhanced my creative urge to portray it with that ease of spontaneity and creativity, merging and emerging on the vast canvas of life.
